The Stories That Shape Us
The First Story: Connecting the dots
"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future."
Jobs dropped out of Reed College but continued auditing classes that interested him — including calligraphy. This seemingly useless knowledge would later become the foundation of the Mac's beautiful typography. Every experience, every detour, every "failure" is a dot waiting to be connected.
The Second Story: Love and loss
"Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. The only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did."
At 30, Steve was fired from the company he started. But getting fired was the best thing that could have happened — it freed him to enter one of the most creative periods of his life, leading to Pixar and eventually returning to Apple. Your passion is your compass.
The Third Story: Death
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice."
